Thrillers in Canberra – 4 and 5 September

August 27, 2012

I am delighted to be doing two events in Canberra on 4 and 5 September. The first, on Sept 4, is at Paperchain bookshop and the second, on Sept 5, is a two hour seminar on thriller writing at the ACT Writers Centre.

Event 1 – Evening talk at Paperchain Bookshop

This is what Paperchain have to say about my talk:

“L. A. Larkin will talk about her writing process, how she develops
her plots and characters, and her time in Antarctica researching Thirst.
She learned about crevasse rescue, Polar survival and equipment, and even
how to sew up a wound. Come and join this intrepid author for an evening of
adventure and an opportunity to ask questions.

Tuesday September 4
5.45 for 6.00pm
RSVP Monday September 3
Telephone 6295 6723 or
L.A. Larkin travelled to Antarctica to research Thirst on a former Russian oceanographic research vessel. After the success of her first thriller, The Genesis Flaw, L.A. Larkin gave up her climate change consultancy role, and now divides her time between writing thrillers, public speaking engagements and running thriller writing courses both in the UK and Australia. She lives in Sydney.”

Event 2 – Evening seminar “Writing to Thrill” with ACT Writers Centre

“If you love crime and action thrillers and would like to learn how to write them, this
fun and informative two hour seminar will give you invaluable pointers. Acclaimed
thriller author, L.A. Larkin, will talk about choosing your story, developing plot,
writing your critically important opening paragraph and bringing your characters to
life. She will also touch on what publishers and agents tend to look for in a thriller
manuscript. There will be plenty of time for questions during this seminar and if you simply enjoy
reading thrillers, then come along and find out how they are written!
6-8pm Wednesday 5 September
ACT Writers Centre, Gorman House Arts Centre, 55 Ainslie Avenue, Braddon
